Community Service Opportunities

Safety Wise; Girl Scout Standard 5 states:
Service is inherent in the Girl Scout Promise and Law and is given without expectation of payment or reward.  All girls take part in service activities or projects.

Community Service is one of the core values of Girl Scouting.  Volunteers and Girl Scouts of all ages are encouraged to participate in service projects that will have a real impact on their communities.  Girls can choose projects that reflect their own interests, large or small, and work as individuals or as group.  It is especially important for adult volunteers to coach girls on identifying local needs they care about and guide girls in reflecting on what they’re learning.  To apply the Discover, Connect, and Take Action process will ensure that girls develop leadership values and skills while reaching out to others.  By continuing our long tradition of helping others, we can fulfill the Girl Scout mission in a visible way in our communities.

Girl Scouts Forever Green:
Community Action Project

Girl Scouts can change the world– and you can be a part of it!
Join Girl Scouts across Greater South Texas as we make a huge impact on the environment! Your girls can become advocates for greener schools and community areas- how they choose to do it is up to them. We encourage every troop and Juliette Girl Scout to be Forever Green by planning an environmental action project designed and led by girls to bring about sustainable change in their school or community!

Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas is excited to be one of the first Girl Scout councils throughout the country to have the opportunity to participate in this exciting and important program. According to surveys conducted by GSUSA and GSRI, the environment is an incredibly important issue to Girl Scouts. We are thrilled about this opportunity because we know that the Girl Scouts Forever Green Community Action Project will bring about lasting, sustainable, girl-led change.
