Conferences do include a small fee ($35.00) which covers your supplies and meals. Older girls (6th - 12th grades) are always welcome at most of the conferences. Each troop must have at least 1 person trained in Leadership Essentials & FA-CPR, in order to hold meetings, participate in product sales and go on trips. Outdoor Fun is needed for a one pot cook-out, Troop Camp Training if your troop wants to go Camping, sleep out or cook out.

Introduction to Adult Learning
Welcome to Adult Learning,
When attending Girl Scout Learning Opportunities, participants will need to bring paper, pens and any Journey or Girl Guide you may already have. You must register at least one week prior to taking the course. If registration minimums are not met at this time, the class may cancel.
Prior to attending Leadership Essentials, you will need to go to the web site www.gsgst.org, and under the Volunteer tab, you will see the Adult Learning Opportunities. Open that site and at the top you will see the ON-line Girl Scouting 101. This class is a pre-requisition to the face-to-face Leadership Essentials you will need before starting troop meetings. You may have Mother-daughter meetings before that, to schedule troop meetings, get to know each other and divide up jobs. This is also a good time to let the other parents in the troop know about Adult Learning Opportunities. All adults are welcome to attend these classes.
Adult Learning Opportunities
The council provides quality sessions delivered by skilled and enthusiastic volunteer trainer-facilitators. Courses are offered throughout the council from August to May. Please take advantage of as many as you can. The classes you take as an adult volunteer will assist you in providing the best experiences for the girls. You will also make new friends by attending these classes with other volunteers.
To register for the class of your choice, please use the “Registration Form – Adult Learning Opportunities”. This form can be found on the Volunteer site, and on the Forms site.
Mail, fax or e-mail the form to: Terry Blevins, Director of Volunteer Services, 104 West River, Victoria, Tx. 77901. Most training classes are free of charge, however if fees are required, the form does accommodate a credit card, or you are welcome to visit any of the Girl Scout Service Centers to take care of payment. Registrations are required 1 week in advance, and late registrations will be taken if space permits.
Refunds are given only in the following instances:
The course is full and cannot accept your registration.
The course is cancelled by the Director of Volunteer Services (minimum number not met, etc)

What classes do I need to take?
Each troop or group will need to have at least one adult trained in the face-to-face Leadership Essentials class. That person will need to be at all troop meetings and attend all troop trips. So having several adults in your troop-group with this certification will help.
Each troop will also need a First Aid-CPR certified person. This could already be a parent in the troop who is a nurse, doctor, EMT etc. This person must also be at all troop meetings and troop trips.
Level Roundtables are held for volunteers who work with the same age level, such as Daisy, Brownie, Junior or Older Girls. This class will teach you more about the awards which girls earn and how a troop meeting is conducted.
Journey-Girl Guide workshops will help you dig deeper into these program resources.
Troop Camp Training is required if you wish to take your troop camping, on a cook-out, or a sleep-out. Troop Dads are usually interested in this class. The cost of this class is usually $25 - $35 depending on where it is located. Troop Camp Training is offered at all Volunteer Conferences.
The council also offers First Aid-CPR classes throughout the year in various locations. However if you are already certified or took your class somewhere else, please call the Director of Volunteer Services to see if your class meets our criteria.
The council also provides Volunteer Conferences in the following locations: Camp Bayview, Camp Green Hill, Bishop, Laredo & Victoria. The conferences always offer Troop Camp Training, First Aid-CPR and a variety of Enrichment classes such as Ceremonies, SWAPS & Outdoor Fun. Older girls (Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors are also welcome to attend Volunteer Conferences.
The Girl Scout Academy ( Laredo or Harlingen) is a great place to pick up additional Enrichment classes, or those needed classes for the ne Service Delivery Positions such as: Recruiter, Events Series Coordinator, Travel coach, etc. Check our council website for additional positions, classses and information. There is not a fee to attend the Academy but registration is required.
No Walk-ins Please
Unregistered participants put a burden on the location, trainers and other participants. Sometimes there are not enough materials for the walk-ins. Please let us know that you are attending. If you are not registered, and the class is cancelled, we cannot let you know.
Children may not attend
Childcare facilities are not available at any training location. Learning opportunities are available to all registered adult members and some classes are available to older girls. (Cadettes, Seniors & Ambassadors)

Jump to Journeys is designed to give you, as the leader/advisor of a troop/group, a taste of the activities offered in the journeys for the grade level you are working with. By doing the activities with your troop/group you and the girls will have the information you need to decide which journey to dive into.

Each Journey offers girls a new adventure, allowing them to Discover, Connect and Take Action with fun activities, discussions, projects and more! Currently, Girl Scouts offers three unique Journey series - all covering a wide variety of topics.
Journeys are the core framework to the GSLE, and they're available for each Girl Scout grade level. And, they can be customized for each girl! Each Journey comes as a set, providing the adult leaders with a handbook full of fun ideas, useful activities, discussion topics and more. At the end of each Journey, girls will also have the chance to earn their Journey awards and patches to display on their uniforms.
The journeys offer girls all the leadership benefits that we’ve promised them and the badges offer them the chance to build specific skills. When a girl goes on a journey, she gets to explore leadership from all different angles. How does a leader identify a problem that needs to be solved? How does she dig deeper to find the root causes of that issue? How does she research solutions that go beyond the surface level of the problem? And how does she team with others on all of the above, multiplying efforts to make the world a better place? That’s what the journeys are all about! The journeys aim at all three keys to leadership: Discover, Connect and Take Action.
