COVID-19 Update

At Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas, the safety and welfare of our members, volunteers, staff and family, is our top priority. We have been closely monitoring the situation and deferring to local health authorities, including the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and federal , state and local health departments.  In response to the ongoing and most recent updates to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, and acting with an “abundance of caution”, GSGST leadership has decided to close each of our 5 service centers and cancel or postpone all upcoming events.  This includes all upcoming previously approved Troop and Service Unit events.

Our staff members will be working remotely and most events will be rescheduled at a later date.  Leadership will meet daily to determine when staff will return to work.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email or call 956-425-2388.

Thank you for your understanding.

Program FAQs

Will you be canceling any programs? Will we receive refunds?

In an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19, GSGST has made the decision to cancel or postpone all troop and service unit meetings, events, trips, etc. until September 30, 2020. We will continue to monitor updates from the CDC and will make changes accordingly.

We encourage you to visit our Girl Scouting at Home page and follow us @greatersouthtexas on Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube for some exciting virtual opportunities to keep your girl connected to her sister Girl Scouts. If you do not feel comfortable attending a program, please use your discretion on how to best proceed.

Please reach out to Customer Care at or 800-477-2688 to inquire about potential refunds. For the safety and protection of our Girl Scout community, please stay home and encourage others to do the same if you experience symptoms of the flu such as fever, cough, and/or respiratory distress.

Will you be requiring Service Units and Troops to cancel locally coordinated programs and events?

Currently, all Council-coordinated programs as scheduled have been cancelled until further notice. We suggests to all Troops and members to stay in accordance with the government's new guidelines which call for no groups bigger than 10. Refer to use of Third-Party video communication (such as FaceTime, Google Duo, Skype, etc.).

For questions about specific Service Unit events, please reach out to Service Unit leadership. Questions about specific Troop-related activities (including Troop coordinated travel, regular Troop meetings, etc.) should be directed to your Troop Leader.

What about summer & day camp?

As our community situation continues to change rapidly with COVID-19, the plans for Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas must shift accordingly. We have made the difficult decision to cancel summer 2020 resident camp. Please know that we did not come to this decision lightly.

What about 3rd Party Events offered to Girl Scouts?

3rd Party Program Partners who offer events and programs for Girl Scout members are able to determine their own cancellation and refund policy. We encourage registrants to reach out directly to the hosting organization to inquire about their cancellation terms and policies. Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas cannot issue refunds for 3rd Party Events or Programming. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Travel FAQs

Will you be canceling upcoming travel opportunities?

While our general policy will be to continue with travel as planned, we will be reviewing Council coordinated trips on a case by case basis, considering domestic and international factors and information from the CDC and local health authorities.  Based on minimum participation requirements, as families make the decisions that are best for them, trips may be rescheduled or canceled on a trip-by-trip basis.

How can girls and volunteers best help prevent the spread of COVID-19?

The same steps that prevent the spread of seasonal flu viruses can help prevent the spread of COVID-19. We encourage volunteers to enforce proper hand washing techniques at troop meetings and events. For the safety and protection of our Girl Scout community, please stay home and encourage others to do the same if you experience symptoms of the flu such as fever, cough, and/or respiratory distress.
